Erik ten Hag has lamented Anthony Taylor’s refereeing performance during Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Southampton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were forced to play the majority of the game against Southampton with ten-men after Casemiro received his second straight red in his last three Premier League appearances for a high challenge on Carlos Alcaraz.

The second straight red means that United’s star midfielder will be absent for the club’s next four domestic games following a red card already this season.

Another huge decision went against Ten Hag’s men during the first half too, with Armel Bella-Kotchap getting away with a seemingly blatant hand ball in his own penalty area.

Speaking to Sky Sports about the decision not to award Man Utd a penalty, Ten Hag said: “Oh definitely [the penalty should’ve been awarded]. There is no doubt.

“I don’t understand why the VAR is not interrupting because they did previously.”

When asked about Casemiro’s red card, Ten Hag pointed out that, prior to playing in the Premier League, the midfielder didn’t receive a single straight red throughout his long career: “Casemiro played over 500 games in Europe and he never had one [straight] red card.

“And now, in 20 games in the Premier League he has red cards. We will deal with [his suspension for four games]. The issue is that this game was influenced by the referee.”
