Erik ten Hag has been trying to get tips on how to stop Erling Haaland from Jadon Sancho ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday at the Etihad.
Haaland and Sancho were teammates at Borussia Dortmund before the England winger moved to Manchester United and the Norwegian forward signed for City.
It has been an incredible start to life in the Premier League for Haaland, with the 22-year-old scoring 11 goals in his first seven league games for Pep Guardiola’s side, plus three in two Champions League matches.
A huge task for Ten Hag on Sunday is to stop the prolific striker and it is no surprise that he is trying to get some insight from Sancho on his old teammate in Germany.
‘It’s our job as staff to look at someone like Haaland in advance. If an individual makes a huge contribution, we need to analyse them,’ said Ten Hag.
‘But of course you talk with your players as well. When someone has played in the past with a particular opponent, like Sancho and Haaland, you ask him.’

Ten Hag also has some insight of his own after working with Guardiola at Bayern Munich, with the Dutchman coaching the reserve side when the Spaniard was leading the first team.
‘Of course I know him but we worked together eight years ago and as a manager, one of the main things is you always have to develop. That’s what he has done and hope I did too,’ said Ten Hag.

Haaland is difficult enough to stop at any point, but he will be as motivated as ever when taking on the Red Devils, having followed City as a youngster due to his father Alfie playing for the club.
When he signed for the Premier League champions he was asked which matches he was excited to most and he was clear, saying: ‘Look, I don’t like to say the words but Manchester United.
‘There are a lot of United fans in my home town in Norway, so I’ve always had to have a go at them. I’m used to this and I love it.
‘Don’t take things too seriously. I want to be able to talk a bit like the fans, otherwise it gets a bit boring, doesn’t it?’
