Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) slammed the appearance of FBI Director Christopher Wray in front of the House Judiciary Committee as “absolute chaos.”

The progressive Democrat went against some in his party by taking an unabashed pro-law enforcement stance in order to criticize the skeptical attitude of some Republicans towards the FBI.

“Just bananas, absolute chaos in there,” Swalwell said about the appearance. He wrote off the testimony as a situation “where the FBI director, who oversees 38,000 employees; investigates terrorism, child exploitation, COVID fraud, national security, walks right into the partners meeting of Insurrection LLC, the largest law firm in D.C. now with just one client: Donald Trump.”

“And so the two main issues were why didn’t the FBI let more people see the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop? And why did the FBI raid Mar-a-Lago? Again, we’ve got cyberattacks coming at us. We have mass shootings all across America. And that was the focus today in the hearing,” he continued, dismissing the concerns of Republicans in the hearing.

The California Democrat then pointed to his family in law enforcement as the reason behind his strong feelings on the issue and claimed that Republican skepticism toward the FBI was putting them in danger.

“Look, I’m a son of a cop,” he said. “I have two brothers who are police officers. I worry every day about their safety, but I especially worry now about the safety of everyone in law enforcement when you see these calls to defund the FBI.”

“You have a former Trump aide who is posting addresses of former FBI agents,” Swalwell continued. “So I do worry that, you know, their safety is at risk if we, you know, start politicizing the work of nonpolitical people.”
