Eric Garcia injury: Pep Guardiola provides update on Manchester City defender after collision with Ederson

Watch Now: Highlights: Manchester City vs. Arsenal (1:26)

Wednesday’s Manchester City-Arsenal took a scary turn in the second half after a horrible collision between City goalkeeper Ederson and his teammate Eric Garcia.

Garcia, a defender, took the worst of the hit and required medical attention on the field. Garcia was running back toward his team’s goal on a long ball from Arsenal and Ederson collided with Garcia as the goalkeeper charged forward to punch the ball away. Ederson walked away from the incident unharmed.

Garcia was stabilized and carted off with a head injury as players around him looked on in concern.

“We are a little bit concerned,” Guardiola said after the match. “He responded quite well but have to wait for the next hours. “He’s conscious, which is a good sign but he’s going to make an extra test in the hospital.”

This isn’t Ederson’s first nasty crash outside of the box at the Etihad. A few seasons back, he was on the wrong end of a challenge from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and had to be carted off with a gruesome injury, while Mane was shown a red card.

CBS Sports will update this story as more information is released on Garcia’s condition.
