PUNE, India (AP) — England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss Tuesday and elected to field in the first one-day international against India.
England is without their three key World Cup 2019 winners. Joe Root and Chris Woakes were rested for the series while Jofra Archer is recovering from an elbow injury he aggravated during England’s 3-2 loss to India in the preceding Twenty20 series.
Middle-order batsman Sam Billings, fast bowler Tom Curran and allrounder Moeen Ali return to England’s ODI lineup.
India gave debuts to allrounder Krunal Pandya and 25-year-old fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. Pandya did well in the recent domestic Vijay Hazara Trophy while leading Baroda and Krishna, who represented Karnataka, finished with 14 wickets in seven games.
India persisted with Lokesh Rahul, who was out of form with only 15 runs in the Twenty20 series, but will bat in the middle-order and also keep wickets.
The three-match series will be played in Pune.
