England boss Gareth Southgate was full of superlatives as his team looks to build on Thursday’s win in Italy.

“It’s as well as we’ve played with the ball against a top team, I think,” he said.

“In the second half the errors gave them a bit of enthusiasm – of course they were 2-0 down anyway so they had to go for it, they were a bit more aggressive in their pressure. Then when you concede, the stadium changes, the emotion changes, and you’re in a difficult place.

“What pleased me was the resilience we showed. There’s different qualities needed to win football matches and you’ve got to show all of those things, so if we could put both sides of the game together then that would be the ideal [against Ukraine].”
