55 min: England 0-0 Italy After a very patient move from England, Grealish feeds a nice pass into Sterling in the area.

He turns and hits a low drive that is comfortably saved by by Donnarumma as he falls to his right.

52 min: England 0-0 Italy A quite brilliant cross from Reece James is scooped over the bar by Sterling, four yards out at the far post.

That’s England’s best chance so far, though in his defence I think he saw it quite late as it came through a crowded area.

Peep peep! No goals, but that was a pretty entertaining first half at Molineux.

Mason Mount hit the bar early on for England, while Italy forced a handful of saves – one excellent – from Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale saves from Pessina!

45 min: England 0-0 Italy More joy down the right for Italy. Pessina cuts inside, onto Pellegrini’s pass, and hits a shot that deflects off Ward-Prowse and is tipped over by Ramsdale.

It was a fairly comfortable save despite the deflection.

Moments later, Ramsdale falls to his right to save Locatelli’s smart volley.

41 min: England 0-0 Italy Pessina’s short cross from the right side of the area is controlled on the chest by Scamacca, six yards out, but he spanks the bouncing ball over the bar.

That was a decent chance. Italy have had a lot of joy down the right.

40 min: England 0-0 Italy Mount combines well with Grealish down the left – as he has a few times in this half – before smacking a rising drive straight at Donnarumma from the edge of the area.

It was well struck but too straight.

37 min: England 0-0 Italy Nice play from England on the right. James plays in the overlapping Mount, whose lofted cross finds Grealish beyond the far post.

He helps it back across goals, and Gatti gets in front of Abraham in the six-yard box to make an important clearance.

31 min It’s been a decent enough first half, and both teams have had chances, but it’s a million miles from the intensity of a game at a major tournament. No offence to the Nations League or anything.

28 min: England 0-0 Italy England work the ball patiently down the right before James pulls a low cross back towards Grealish in the area.

His poked shot is blocked by Gatti on the six-yard line. On reflection he probably had enough space to take a touch.

Moments later, Grealish is booked for taking a shortcut through Gatti.

Excellent save from Ramsdale!

25 min: England 0-0 Italy A long, crossfield pass finds Di Lorenzo on the right. He cushions a volleyed cross that escapes everyone at the near post and runs towards the unmarked Tonali at the far post.

Tonali opens his body to slide a low shot that saved with his legs by Ramsdale, who had scampered across his line. Not one of his occasional jaw-dropping saves, but still terrific goalkeeping.

Moments later, Locatelli is booked for a foul on Mount.

There have been two early goals in the other game in England’s group, which kicked off at the same time.

Zsolt Nagy gave the home side the lead in the sixth minute.

Jonas Hofmann, who scored against England on Tuesday, equalised three minutes later.

18 min: England 0-0 Italy Ward-Prowse’s outswinging corner is volleyed just over the bar by Rice at the near post.

It was a pretty good effort, actually – he caught it sweetly but couldn’t steer it on target.
