Mary Earps has provided many memorable moments during the Women’s World Cup, but none more iconic to her reaction to saving Jennifer Hermoso‘s second-half penalty.

The writing looked to be on the wall for the Lionesses when, after lengthy deliberation, referee Tori Penso, pointed the spot after a handball offence by Keira Walsh.

Earps, the hero of the shootout win over Nigeria earlier in the tournament, kept her side in the contest, diving low to her left to repel Hermoso’s fiercely struck effort.

In the aftermath of the celebrations, Earps was seen repeatedly telling the Spanish players to ‘f*** off’ as she attempted to clear her lines and push England back up the field.

It was another huge, reputation enhancing moment for the 30-year-old Earps who also played a major role in England’s win over Brazil in the Finalissima at Wembley earlier this year.

‘What a fantastic save from Earps,’ said one of her predecessors and former England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley.

‘She will have known where Hermoso was going to go, she will have researched it before this game.

‘Went early and got a clean catch on it.’

‘What save, every adulation. She guessed right, did her homework,’ added another former England No.1 Rachel Brown-Finnis. It was not the perfect penalty from Jenni Hermoso and Mary Earps took full advantage.

‘What a save, what a moment. You’ve got to enjoy these moments, your team are still in it.’

It wasn’t just former England shot stoppers who loved Earps reaction, however, with fans up and down the country loving the show of emotion from the Manchester goalkeeper.

‘Someone gif that dismissive F** OFF! from Mary Earps and introduce it into my bloodstream’ wrote one fan while another added ‘Mary Earps is an absolute VIBE!’

Sadly for Earps and her teammates, that save failed to inspire a comeback as Spain held on to their advantage and celebrated their first ever World Cup win.
