President Macron has said the UK is a “friendly nation” despite its leaders and their “little mistakes”.
His comments came in response to Liz Truss saying the “jury was out” when asked if the French leader was a “friend or foe”.
Macron accused the Conservative leadership contender of losing her bearings and grandstanding.
Her comments, which came during hustings with Rishi Sunak, led to incredulity in French media outlets, which were swift to point out that Paris and London were Nato allies, despite arguments over issues such as post-Brexit fishing licences and cross-Channel migration.
