MOHAMED ELNENY has suffered a significant injury and is reportedly set for a lengthy spell out.

And that could force Arsenal into changing their transfer strategy in the final days of the window.

According to The Athletic, Elneny picked up the unknown problem during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

However, it was not until after the match that the Egyptian became aware of the issue.

He is still being checked over by the Arsenal medics but the initial feeling is that he will be sidelined for a while.

Fellow central midfielder Thomas Partey is also currently out injured – although his muscle issue is only expected to keep him out for a short period.

But the loss of Elneny may see the Gunners make a dramatic turn on who they target to bring in before the window closes on Thursday night.

Mikel Arteta was looking to land a winger with Pedro Neto top of the list and Mykhalo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk another option.

But now the focus is far more on a midfielder – although they are not looking for a short-term fix because Albert Sambi Lokonga provides immediate cover as the deep-lying player.

So that could see Arsenal go all out for Youri Tielemans.

The Leicester and Belgium ace is into the final year of his King Power contract and has been linked with an exit all summer – including to the Emirates.

At 25, he already has 465 senior appearances under his belt for club and country and famously scored the screamer that landed Leicester the FA Cup for the first time last year.

Arsenal are also interested in Celtic’s Matt O’Reilly – but face competition from Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Scottish champions since signing from MK Dons in January.

Despite being born in West London and coming through the Fulham academy, O’Reilly switched allegiance to play for Denmark’s Under-21s due to eligibility from his mother.
