Electronic/Dance Producer SOPHIE Has Sadly Passed Away According To Her Close Friends

Scottish musician, record producer, singer, songwriter and DJ SOPHIE has sadly passed away.
An official statement from SOPHIE’s team say that she died after a sudden accident.
“It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident. At this time respect and privacy for the family is our priority. We would also ask for respect for her fanbase, and to treat the private nature of this news with sensitivity.
“SOPHIE was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists in the last decade. Not only for ingenious production and creativity but also for the message and visibility that was achieved. An icon of liberation.”
Friend and fellow musician Christine and the Queens posted a heart-felt tribute on Saturday night.
An outpouring of tributes have been posted on Twitter since, with many saying they were personally touched by her music and creativity as an artist.
Asa trans woman, SOPHIE not only made incredible music but inspired others to embrace who they are.
SOPHIE’s debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. SOPHIE has also produced for a bunch of artists like Charli XCX, Flume, Vince Staples, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
At the beginning of SOPHIE’s career she tried to conceal her identity. At one Boiler Room set she was rumoured to be disguised as a security guard, while drag queen Ben Woozy pretended to be her.
