Nunez latched on to the loose ball before Ederson chopped the Uruguay international down, earning a yellow card and giving Liverpool a penalty in the process.

The Brazilian stayed down but managed to get up and nearly save Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty, which saw the Reds equalise.

But minutes later, the goalkeeper was down again and had to be replaced with Stefan Ortega coming on in his place.

With the Premier League entering the business end, it might have huge implications for the rest of the season.

And even so in the immediate future with Anfield reignited by Liverpool’s equaliser.

City had looked in control in the first half when a clever corner routine gave them the lead on Merseyside.

Kevin de Bruyne took one short to find Stones completely free a yard from goal, tucking in past Caoimhin Kelleher.

However, moments into the second half and Liverpool had the perfect start as Ederson gave a penalty away.

Ake’s poor backpass saw Ederson come charging out, injuring himself in the process after taking Nunez down.

A result for either side could be potentially huge in the title race with both City and Liverpool gunning for the prize.

Arsenal started Sunday top of the league after a dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.
