Eddie Kingston Retains ROH World And NJPW STRONG Titles Over Katsuyori Shibata At AEW WrestleDream

Shibata #Shibata

Eddie Kingston has successfully retained his titles and Katsuyori Shibata failed to create a modern wrestling Triple Crown, but earned even more respect for Kingston in the process.

Coming into AEW WrestleDream, Katsuyori Shibata had everything to gain and nothing to lose as he was challenging Eddie Kingston for both the Ring of Honor World Championship and the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship without risking his Ring of Honor Pure Title.

Both men gave it their all, embodying the fighting spirit and paying tribute to Antonio Inoki. However, in the end, Kingston pulled out the victory with the same Powerbomb that earned him the championship against Claudio Castagnoli at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.

Post-match, both men showed respect to one another and Eddie Kingston left the ring first to allow Shibata to soak in the adulation from the crowd.

Shibata has been Ring of Honor Pure Champion for 185 days, after defeating Wheeler Yuta for the championship at ROH Supercard of Honor.
