Echo Fox signs 7 players to build largest fighting game roster in esports

Tokido #Tokido

The fighting game community just got a whole lot foxier — and we’re not talking about more Fox mains in Melee.

Echo Fox, the North American esports team owned by former NBA champion Rick Fox, signed seven fighting game players Wednesday, bringing its total up to nine — the largest fighting game community (FGC) roster in the esports world.

Here are the new Echo Fox players:

Street Fighter

Mortal Kombat

Super Smash Bros. 4

Along with those players, Echo Fox also signed Antonio Javier, the former FGC manager of Evil Geniuses.

Evil Geniuses also parted ways with the majority of its FGC roster Sunday, including Wong, Momochi and ChocoBlanka. Echo Fox swept right in to pick up the in-demand free agents.

Echo Fox has a pretty star-studded FGC line-up now.

Tokido, Wong and Momochi join Julio Fuentes on the roster, all four of which are among the top Street Fighter players in the world and took first in at least one major Street Fighter V tournament in the 2016 season. Momochi was arguably the best Ultra Street Fighter IV player in the world, Tokido is known as one of Japan’s five gods of fighting games and Wong has been known to dominate the Marvel vs. Capcom scene (MvC4 is expected to release this year).

Wong told Yahoo Esports that he was considering leaving his job at NVidia to compete full time.

MKLeo is the best Smash 4 player in Mexico and one of the top Smash 4 players in the world, most recently taking first place at major tournament 2GGT: ZeRo Saga in December. Echo Fox’s other Smash player, Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman, is one of the five gods of Melee and is well-ranked in Smash 4.

In Mortal Kombat X and XL, Scar recently took first at the SoCal Regionals in October 2016 and SonicFox has won two Evo championships and three ESL Pro Leagues over the past two years, making him the top Mortal Kombat player in the world.

On top of its FGC roster, Echo Fox has teams competing in League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty and Gears of War 4.

Echo Fox did not immediately respond to Mashable’s request for comment.
