The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan is well-known in the college football world.

Some of the biggest postseason games in recent Buckeyes football history however have come against a more rarely seen opponent: the Clemson Tigers.

The Buckeyes and Tigers have met on the gridiron only five times since their first game back on December 29, 1978. On that date 45 years ago, Clemson defeated Ohio State in the Gator Bowl, 17-15.

Fans of the two schools might not have to wait long to see Clemson and Ohio State do battle once more, as the two are projected to end their three-year hiatus at the 2023 Capital One Orange Bowl, according to some of the latest college football postseason betting odds.

Action Network has the Buckeyes as five-point favorites for the postseason game on December 30.

Should the gambling site’s prediction come true, Ohio State would miss the College Football Playoff (CFP) for the fifth time since 2015, and extend their streak without a national championship to ten years.

For the Tigers, a trip to the Orange Bowl would mean a third-straight season without a CFP berth.

The four teams Action Network has made the playoff over Clemson and Ohio State (in no order) are Michigan, Florida State, Georgia, and Washington.

Following the two semifinal matchups, the site has the Bulldogs and Wolverines playing for a national title, with the former team, slotted as 1.5-point favorites.

Clemson holds a dominant lead over the Buckeyes in their overall series with a 4-1 record, however, the Scarlet and Gray took the most recent matchup back at the 2021 Allstate Sugar Bowl, 49-28.

The victory earned Ohio State a spot in the 2021 CFP National Championship. In the end, the Alabama Crimson Tide proved better than the Buckeyes that day, and won the game by a final score of 52-24.
