Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz’s time in Philadelphia reportedly will be coming to an end if he gets his way, according to an ESPN report. Chris Mortensen said Sunday that Wentz, benched for Jalen Hurts, will demand a trade this offseason.

“The guy who was drafted No. 2 by the Eagles, Carson Wentz, his relationship with the Eagles is all but fractured,” Mortensen said. “In fact, it is fractured. Wentz is expected to ask the Eagles for a trade. He’ll help the Eagles to facilitate a trade. The reaction (of) the owner, Jeffery Lurie, will be vital to this one. Right now, Wentz clearly wants out of Philadelphia and a fresh start somewhere else.”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Sunday that Colts quarterback Philip Rivers is deciding whether to return for one more season with the Colts or retire. Rapoport said the results of today’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and whether the Colts make the playoffs could factor in Rivers decision. The decision, Rapoprt said, is “up in the air.”
If Rivers retires, Wentz likely would jump at the chance to be Rivers’ replacement and to be reunited with his former offensive coordinator Frank Reich, now head coach of the Colts. Reich helped Wentz achieve success, especially in 2017, when Wentz threw for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns — better numbers than Wentz’s 2,620 yards, 16 touchdowns, and league-leading 15 interceptions this season.
“My understanding is that Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, if he is in fact on the block and traded, would prefer Indy over several other choices,” Rapoport said. “He might be involved in this process going forward.”
Wentz was benched during a game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 and has been the backup to Hurts, the rookie and second-round pick, for the past three games. The team will not dress Wentz in the finale against Washington.
