Eagles Notebook: Brown’s run of big yards ends, not run of big games

PHILADELPHIA — Just when one one streak ended, another began for Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.

The Cowboys limited Brown to seven receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown Sunday, well below the production that made him the NFC offensive player of the month in October. He had six straight games of 125 or more yards, most ever by a player since the 1970 merger. The Cowboys weren’t going to let him beat them.

Just the same, Brown went over 1,000 receiving yards for the second straight season. He enters the bye week with 67 catches for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns.

“I’m just trying to make the most of my opportunities,” Brown said. “Most importantly we got the win, but we’ve got to clean up some things. The last three drives just weren’t good enough. We kept putting the defense in harm’s way. I just wish we could have put it away at the end and not put our defense out there. That’s stressful, man. It got my nerves all bad.”

The Cowboys had multiple chances to take the lead in the last five minutes but were turned aside by the Birds’ defense.

The Eagles led, 28-17, on Brown’s four-yard scoring reception with 1:13 left in the third quarter but couldn’t mount much of an attack the rest of the day.

“They doubled me on third down,” Brown said. “But I had the opportunities and we didn’t cash in. Other guys stepped up and made plays.”

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert exited with an injured forearm that is going to require more testing.

Cowboys linebacker Markquese Bell fell on Goedert’s right arm after tackling him following a 28-yard gain, giving the Eagles a first down at the 13-yard line of the Cowboys with 2:54 left in the third quarter, the Birds in charge of a 21-17 lead.

Goedert had three receptions for 50 yards.

Eagles tight end Abert Okwuegbunam and running back Rashad Penny dressed for the first time this season. Penny was back to return kickoffs.

The Eagles scratched cornerback tight end Grant Calcaterra, running back Boston Scott (personal matter), cornerback Bradley Roby (shoulder), quarterback Tanner McKee, defensive end Derek Barnett and defensive tackle Moro Ojomo.

Hurts banged up his already sore knee but didn’t miss a snap.

“I think it probably just scared him,” Brown said. “I really don’t worry about him because I know who he is and what he’s been through.”

Explosive Cowboys kick returner KaVontae Turpin suffered a rib injury in the first quarter after two outstanding returns.

It appeared to be a break for the Eagles until Turpin returned and hauled in a four-yard scoring pass.
