LANDOVER, Md. — The Eagles entered Week 8 down to their backup right guard, and now they are using their third option while trying to come back against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field.

Right guard Sua Opeta got up slowly with 1:48 left in the first half with the Eagles down 14-3. Opeta tried to get out to the Eagles sideline, but he could not make it, and the trainers had to come out to the field to attend to him, forcing the Eagles having to use their final timeout of the drive. After he spoke with medical personnel, he made his way to the locker room.

Opeta was already replacing Cam Jurgens, who is currently on injured reserve with a foot injury. The Eagles are now using Tyler Steen, who was selected in the third round of this year’s draft. Steen was taken as a potential future right guard when Jason Kelce retires and Jurgens moves over to center. On the drive that Steen entered, Steen did not allow pressure to come from his side. In fact, Steen held up well on quarterback Jalen Hurts’ 16-yard TD pass to A.J. Brown with 34 seconds left in the half.

Looking to the future, Jurgens is eligible to be taken off injured reserve next week ahead of the team’s Sunday night game against the Dallas Cowboys, their last before their bye week.
