Eagles coaching decision for the future ‘(not) difficult,’ says ESPN analyst

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni needs to go.

That’s what ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky intimated after Philadelphia lost 32-9 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round on Monday. Especially after losing six out of their last seven games and Bill Belichick, who was recently let go by the Patriots, available.

“I do not believe the decisions by Jerry Jones nor Howie Roseman are difficult,” Orlovsky posted on X (formerly Twitter) early Tuesday morning. “Football-wise — It’s obvious what they both have to do.”

It seems unfathomable that after coming within four points of winning the Super Bowl and starting the 2023 season 10-1 Sirriani’s job is in question. Yet here he is.

Orlovsky wasn’t the only former NFL quarterback working for ESPN calling for Sirianni’s job. During ESPN’s broadcast of the Eagles game, Troy Aikman also questioned the Eagles coach’s future with the team.

“You’ve got to re-energize the fan base and to do that, there has to be changes,” Aikman said after the game. “Will there be changes? Will it be Nick Sirianni? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised. … You can’t go into next season with the status quo. … It’s going to be a long offseason for the Eagles.”

To his credit, Sirianni took a different tact than Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who walked out on reporters after being asked about his future in Pittsburgh after losing 31-17 to the Bills on Monday.

Sirianni, who has rubbed some the wrong way with his on-field antics, said he’s not worried about himself when asked a similar question.

“I’m not worried about me,” Sirianni said, via NJ Advance Media’s Chris Franklin. “I’m worried as the head coach, trying to be there for our guys and staff right now through a tough time. Obviously, we didn’t finish anywhere near where we wanted to finish. My heart feels for these guys, and we are all taking this hard right now.”
