Don’t expect to see Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz in uniform Sunday night against the Washington Football Team.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will be a ‘healthy scratch” for the game.

With Jalen Hurts starting the game, Nate Sudfeld will serve as the backup quarterback. Sudfeld, who is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, has only been active for the season opener against Washington.

Wentz will most likely still be on the sidelines. When Sudfeld was inactive this season, he was seen on the sideline speaking with Wentz and Hurts, trying to help both quarterbacks decipher what defenses were doing. Wentz could play a similar role Sunday night.

Wentz being inactive comes when several reports suggest that Wentz will demand a trade in the offseason after being benched in favor of Hurts. Wentz is set to make $34 million next season, and his number will be a large burden on the team’s cap next season unless he renegotiates his deal to help facilitate a trade.

Even though he is a backup and would only go in if something were to happen to Hurts, making Wentz inactive protects him from potentially being injured behind a makeshift offensive line that now has struggling Matt Pryor play left tackle.

If the Eagles plan to move on from Wentz in the offseason, the last thing the team would want is for him to suffer a significant injury that would impact the type of compensation the team would receive in a potential trade.
