Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said he’ll run for president if it “is what the people want.”
The actor said it would be his “honor” to be chosen to serve the people of the United States after a recent poll asked respondents whether certain celebrities should consider running for political office.
“I do have the goal to unite our country,” he said in an interview with NBC’s Willie Geist. “I also feel that, if this is what the people want, then I will do that.”

In a recent online survey by Piplsay with over 30,000 responses that took place from April 2-4, participants were asked whether they thought Johnson should run for president and whether Matthew McConaughey should run for governor of Texas. Twenty-nine percent of respondents thought both should run for the respective offices. Seventeen percent thought only Johnson should run for the presidency, and 12% thought only McConaughey should run for the governorship.
Twenty-one percent of respondents said they weren’t sure, and another 21% said neither should run. The poll’s margin of error was not specified.
Johnson called the polling results “humbling” in a Saturday Instagram post.
“I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people,” he said.
Several high-profile political figures have been floated as potential 2024 contenders. Former President Donald Trump continues to stir speculation that he will make a third run for the White House, and other Republicans such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo are widely expected to vie for the Republican nomination in 2024.

“The answer is yes, my plan is to run for reelection,” he said during his first press conference since taking office. “That’s my expectation.”
