This will allow Devils and hockey fans at large to familiarize themselves with the next class of NHL talent. We now take a look at Seth Jarvis from Portland in the WHL.

CUT TO THE CHASE

Seth Jarvis spent this past season in the Western Hockey League showing his scoring skills and making a strong case for any team looking to draft him. The center had 98 points in 58 games for the Portland Winterhawks, 42 of which were goals. His offensive production ranked him at the top of the league. Jarvis was second in the WHL in points and third in goals.

Jarvis also showed consistency with his scoring during the 2019-20 season. He had multiple double-digit point streaks – once scoring in 10 straight games, and another time scoring in 11 straight games. He earned a roster spot for the 2020 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and finished in the #11 spot on the NHL’s final prospect rankings for North American skaters.

As if those numbers weren’t impressive enough, take a look back at Jarvis’s performance during the 2018-19 season for Portland. Last year, Jarvis played 61 games and had a total of 39 points (16-23). Not only did he score more goals in 2019-20 than he did points in 2018-19, Jarvis had a total of 59 more points this year.

When it comes to what Jarvis brings to the table, he plays a quick and effective game, producing at high levels especially offensively. Jarvis also understands his responsibility to bring that offensive production and is confident in his abilities.

“If I’m trusted with offense, I know my abilities so whenever it comes down to my time to help out and provide offense I think I have full trust in myself,” the center told WHL.ca.

Tony Ferrari of Dobber Prospects has high praise for the Winterhawks center ahead of the draft.

“Jarvis has been one of the hottest draft-eligible prospects since the start of the new year [2020],” said Ferrari in February. “The skilled owner has been an offensive catalyst for the Portland Winterhawks square that is leading the league in wins. He is constantly around the net front and possesses the ability to score in bunches.”

Whichever team chooses Jarvis will find themselves with a highly-skilled offensive prospect who has show immense growth as of late, and determination to be an impact player every time he’s on the ice. If Jarvis is still available in the second half of the first round, he could be a player the franchise considers.

WHO IS HE LIKE?

Jarvis’ NHL prospect profile links his playing style to a fellow Canadian, Claude Giroux. Giroux is the captain of the Flyers and a key offensive piece to their roster. Fans may see Jarvis make a similar impact with his NHL franchise one day.
