Dr Shannon Curry alleges Amber Heard’s psychologist ‘misrepresented’ results

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard‘s defamation case is now into its sixth and final week. Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million, while Amber Heard is countersuing for $100 million. Depp and Heard were married from 2015 until 2016 after meeting on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009.
The defamation case has seen Depp and Heard both take the stand. During the proceedings on May 25th, Johnny Depp’s forensic psychologist Dr Shannon Curry alleged Amber Heard’s forensic psychologist, Dr Dawn Hughes, “misrepresented” tests and results used in her evaluation.

Dr Shannon Curry is a clinical and forensic psychologist who is testifying in the Depp v Heard case. Dr Curry has a counselling centre based in Orange County, California, and is licensed in California and Hawaii.
She has 15 years of experience in conducting psychological evaluations, therapy and research, as per Curry Psychology Group‘s website.
Dr Curry assessed Heard’s mental health after being contacted by Depp’s legal team in 2021.

Dr Curry alleges Heard’s psychologist ‘misrepresented’ tests and results
Dr Dawn Hughes carried out tests on Heard and diagnosed her with PTSD in 2019. Dr Hughes shared her expertise with the court in early May.
On May 25th, Dr Shannon Curry, Depp’s forensic psychologist, alleged Dr Dawn Hughes “misrepresented” results from Dr Curry’s evaluation.
Dr Curry also said psychologists were ethically advised to constrain their reporting to the data found and not include personal or private information that could compromise the dignity of any of the parties involved.
As reported by Fox News, she claimed Dr Hughes included some of Heard’s allegations of abuse when describing Depp, whom she hadn’t examined. Dr Curry said she believed Dr Hughes used the words “obsessive jealous quite a few times”, claiming these things couldn’t be detected based on testing and psychological evaluation.
Dr Curry also claimed on May 25th that Heard “exaggerated” PTSD symptoms and said she didn’t agree that Heard was suffering from PTSD.

As well as claiming Dr Hughes misrepresented tests and results carried out on Amber Heard, Dr Curry alleged Heard “exaggerated” PTSD symptoms and “engaged in defensiveness” during testing.
As per FOX News, Dr Curry said: “She administered the personality assessment inventory… it includes several scales that are very good at detecting exaggeration, minimisation or even trying to claim you have unusually good qualities. On that test, there were clear indicators Ms Heard engaged in defensiveness.”
Dr Curry said she found Ms Heard’s approach to different tests “interesting”. She added: “It seems to be influenced by what we call the face validity of the questions on the test. So, if the test looks like it’s measuring PTSD, you see exaggeration on her validity scales.
“If the test has less face-valid questions, for instance the personality assessment Dr Hughes administered where she can’t quite figure out what the questions are asking… on those, you see extreme defensiveness… essentially presenting herself as perfect and free of any mental illness or personality disorder.”

Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for defamation because of an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018. Heard is countersuing Depp. The case is set to continue.
