Dr Hilary Jones did not hold back on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain when pub landlord Rod Humphris appeared on the show.

Rod is the landlord of The Raven pub in Bath and found himself in the limelight on Monday after he was filmed shouting at Labour leader Keir Starmer and ordering him to get out of his pub.

Rod appeared to be held back by security guards as he attacked the politician over his response to coronavirus in the past year.

As he spoke to Susanna Reid and Adil Ray via video link, Rod continued to explain his reasons for being so angry at the party he has voted for his entire life.

As the conversation turned to Covid deaths and how other countries have dealt with the pandemic, it was clear that Susanna, Adil, and Dr Hilary didn’t really agree with him.

Looking unimpressed, Dr Hilary started by saying: “I think with the greatest respect Rod, I think you should stick to pulling pints rather than advising the government about policy on the biggest pandemic, public health issue for the last 100 years.

“If we ignore a pandemic and we say lockdown doesn’t work, how do you think this spreads in the first place? It’s very simple, you have to have lockdown in a pandemic that kills people.”

Referring to Rod’s comments about elderly people dying, Dr Hilary added: “And if you’re saying at 83, it doesn’t matter if you die, you’re saying that people like Prince Philip, the last 16 years of his life were meaningless and worthless, we can’t allow that to happen, you can’t be that ageist.”

Later on during the chat, Dr Hilary joked about Rod’s role as a landlord: “Someone who doesn’t believe in the pandemic might not wash his glasses either!”

However, this comment angered viewers tuning in at home as they took to Twitter to slam Dr Hilary Jones.

“I have no sympathy for the veiws of the pub owner but for Dr Hilary to say someone with those views ‘might not wash his glasses either’ is appalling. His businnes has obviously suffered enough and the Dr is now trying to kill it #GMB (sic),” one person posted.

Another viewer claimed: “Just saw him on #GMB, obviously Dr Hilary didn’t agree with him so tried to damage his business further by suggesting he didn’t wash his glasses.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
