Dr. Bonnie Henry “Bonnie Bee” tribute pendant to benefit WISH Drop-In Centre

Dr. Henry #Dr.Henry

The gold bee pendant that B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry has been spotted wearing in her daily briefings is now being updated and sold in a limited-edition fundraiser.

Melissa Caron Jewellers has launched a new line of jewellery—Bonnie Bee pendants—in honour of the calm-voiced doctor who’s seen the province through the COVID-19 crisis.

All profits will be donated to Downtown Eastside charity, WISH Drop-In Centre Society, a beneficiary selected in consultation with Henry. The charitable organization is dedicated to improving the health, safety, and well-being of women who are involved in Vancouver’s street-based sex trade.

Every “Bonnie Bee” or “Little Honey” style purchased will help provide food, essential supplies such as clothing and toiletries, access to sanitation such as showers and toilets, educational programs, and essential support.

The pendants feature bees in gold and silver, updated from Caron’s Miel bee, worn by Henry in briefings. The larger “Bonnie Bee” design features a climbing-vine filigree pattern and an  anatomically correct carved underbelly. It comes with a selection of gemstone eyes (pink sapphire, emerald, diamond, or blue sapphire) and in the choice of white, yellow, rose gold, or sterling silver. Chains come in a variety of lengths. The Little Honey is a smaller version, with highly detailed wings and no gem eyes.

The “Bonnie Bee” and “Little Honey” pendants are available for purchase through melissacaron.com (with the designer’s FIr Street store open only for private appointments). Prices start at $375.

“It’s a reflection of her tireless, industrious work for a greater community and a cheeky reference to her constant motto: ‘Bee kind, bee calm, bee safe’,” Melissa Caron, proprietor and jeweller, said in the release today.
