Dennis Rodman is still, to this day, one of the most controversial figures in NBA history, and it’s not so much because of his historic accolades on the NBA hardwood but his off-the-court antics and behavior that led him to take part in some of the lives most exciting situations. Everyone who knows a thing or two about Rodman knows he did things in his own way, emphasizing freedom and doing whatever he felt like doing at any given time.
Rodman participated on The Apprentice
Exactly 10 years ago, Rodman decided to participate in the celebrity edition of Donald Trump’s famous reality show, “The Apprentice,” where he worked as a project manager on an ad campaign for Melania’s Trump new skincare line. As you probably remember, this show was notorious for the famous Donald Trump line “You’re fired,” which would end the contestants’ hopes and dreams, and the same thing happened to Rodman after a crucial mistake he made when him and his team misspelled Melania’s name on the promo materials for the campaign.
In a meeting between Trump and Rodman about the ad campaign and the whole mixup, Trump immediately said there is no room for mistakes and that these things can’t happen if he wants to stay in the show.
“You know what, it doesn’t matter. Dennis look, I can go through a long big thing and talk about how they didn’t like the color, didn’t like this, didn’t like that. The fact is that you spelled her name wrong, so Dennis, you lost.”
On the other hand, Rodman started defending himself, saying it wasn’t his fault, but hilariously enough, he also said nobody told him to check for potential spelling mistakes. Rodman was surprised that messing up Melania’s name was a significant issue for Trump.
“Of course, I’ve read it before I sent it to the printers. That is not my fault. You told me to read it before sending it to the printers; nobody said nothing about checking spelling.”
Rodman got fired by Trump
What then happened was the moment everyone usually awaited in this show, and that is a famous line that Trump delivered so often, but this time it was directed to Rodman. The words “you are fired” sounded so amusing and unreal because Trump forwarded it to Rodman, simply because he didn’t check the correct spelling of Melania’s name.
Even though this reality show often seemed fake and completely staged, this entire interaction between Rodman and Trump will remain hilarious because it looks natural at moments. Trump had a somewhat surprised face when he saw Rodman actually failed to care to spell his wife’s name correctly, and Rodman, on the other hand, looked shocked that it happened and that it was actually his responsibility to take care of that. Nevertheless, this is just one instance of Rodman doing crazy things outside the basketball arena, making him the legend that he truly is among the NBA royalty.
