Doja Cat Performs New Singles at 2023 VMAs: “Attention,” “Paint the Town Red” and “Demons”

Doja Cat is no stranger to the MTV Video Music Awards stage, having performed for the first time in 2020, followed by another in 2021, in which she showcased her acrobatic skills. She even hosted the awards show in 2021.

This time around, the singer-rapper returns to the VMAs as a nominee, former winner and performer. Introduced by fellow rapper Ice Spice, Doja launched into a performance of her recent singles “Attention,” “Paint the Town Red” and “Demons,” all of which will likely be featured on her highly anticipated fourth studio album, Scarlet.

Dressed in business attire complete with an updo, glasses and red heeled boots, Doja Cat opened her set with “Attention,” alongside her backup dancers, who appeared to be covered in red body paint, meant to look like blood.

Doja removed her blazer and glasses before heading into “Paint the Town Red” against the backdrop of a Manhattan-style cityscape. Finally, the performer let her hair loose to finish off with “Demons.” Wind onstage picked up as papers blew around Doja and her dancers.

The “Say So/Like That” singer’s upcoming album Scarlet is set to drop on Sept 22. Over the course of her career, she has taken home four Moon Person awards, and is nominated for five awards at this year’s show, for video of the year, artist of the year, song of the summer, best art direction and best collaboration.
