Does Blake Griffin make sense for the Nets?

The Detroit Pistons opted to sit veteran star Blake Griffin earlier this season as they tested the trade market for the 31-year-old, but according to a new report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin has agreed to a buyout and is expected to join a contending team in the second half of the season.

Acquiring Blake Griffin makes too much sense for the Brooklyn Nets. This Nets squad is offensively talented all across the board. When you look at even the coaching staff, you have Steve Nash and Mike D’Antoni, two offensively gifted minds. There’s a reason why the Nets have the most productive offense in the league, putting up about 121 points every game. Getting a skilled scorer like Griffin to plug into their system will have him looking like he’s 25 again on that Los Angeles Clippers.

Blake Griffin hasn’t dunked the ball all season, so how does this move still work for the Nets some may ask. Isn’t father time catching up with Griffin? In 2014, Jared Zwerling highlighted the Chris Paul/Blake Griffin pick and roll as being one of the most productive sets to run during that time period.

The Chris Paul/DeAndre Jordan pick and roll was also exhibited to be an unguardable set as well. With the new-look Brooklyn Nets, Jordan is currently shooting a career best 76% playing alongside a facilitator like James Harden and talents such as Kyrie Irving and Joe Harris to name a few.

The Oklahoma native has been expanding his game for years since leaving the Clippers. In Detroit, he has worked on his jumper and can now knock down the three ball more consistently. Griffin as a result has attempted more threes on the Pistons than when he did in Los Angeles. This improved part about Blake Griffin’s game will translate really well if he arrives in Brooklyn.
