Dodgers Free Agent JD Martinez Reportedly Didn’t Want to Go to Giants, Rejected Their Offer

According to a report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the San Francisco Giants offered Los Angeles Dodgers free-agent slugger J.D. Martinez before signing Jorge Soler.
Martinez rejected the offer and remains a free agent.
“Before the Giants signed Jorge Soler, they made an offer to J.D. Martinez,” Heyman wrote. “Word is the ex-Dodger didn’t want to go there. The Rangers are a potential fit for Martinez.”
Unfortunately for Martinez, the Dodgers don’t have a spot for him after signing Shohei Ohtani, who will be the team’s designated hitter this season. However, they were interested and would have offered him if they didn’t sign the two-way superstar.
Dodgers fans might be tempted think that after one year in Los Angeles, Martinez may have developed a strong dislike for their National League West rival. However, Martinez is 36 and might be more motivated to sign with a strong contender — like he did with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
Wherever he ends up signing, Martinez will most likely prioritize a landing place based on the team’s likelihood of winning a World Series. Linking Martinez to Texas, which just won the World Series, makes sense.
Martinez is coming off a great season with the Dodgers. He missed a few weeks with minor injuries but still finished with 33 home runs and a .271/.321/.572 slash line in 113 games.
Hopefully, he will find a home but at least he won’t be wearing orange and black anytime soon.
