After decades of playoff disappointment, there were high hopes America’s Team were finally ready to mount a serious Super Bowl challenge.
A raucous atmosphere in Dallas was dampened early on as Aaron Jones ran in a 3 yard touchdown to give the visitors an early lead.
Jones doubled his TD tally one minute into the second quarter after Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander intercepted Cowboys QB Dak Prescott inside his own 20-yard line.
When Green Bay QB Jordan Love found Dontayvion Wicks with a 20-yard touchdown, Jones had seen enough.
Fox Sports cut to the long-time Dallas owner and captured his stunned reaction to the 20-0 scoreline.
The 81-year-old threw his head back in shock before spinning round on his chair in disgust.
It went from bad to worse for Prescott, who threw his second interception of the game with Darnell Savage returning the pick for a defensive touchdown to take the score to 27-0.
27-0 represented the Cowboys’ largest postseason deficit at home since 1969.
Tight end Jake Ferguson scored a touchdown in the final seconds of the second quarter to give Dallas hope for the second half.
Dallas super fan and TV analyst Skipp Bayless captured the mood of Cowboys fans across the country in a furious halftime rant on X.
He wrote: “GET RID OF DAK PRESCOTT. ENOUGH OF THE SUFFERING. HE WAS A 4TH-ROUNDER FOR A REASON.
“I THREW HIS JERSEY AWAY FOR A REASON. HE’S NOW 2-5 IN THE PLAYOFFS. BIG-MOMENT LOSER. NOT A DALLAS COWBOY QUARTERBACK.”
The Undisputed TV anchor later added: “THIS HAS BECOME THE MOST HUMILIATING PLAYOFF LOSS IN DALLAS COWBOYS HISTORY. WE WERE 7.5-POINT FAVORITES, WITH THE 2 SEED AND THE NO. 1 OFFENSE AND A DEFENSE THAT LED THE LEAGUE IN PRESSURES.”
With pressure on head coach Mike McCarthy to end Dallas’ long wait for another Super Bowl, many fans on X suggested Jones may already be beginning the search for his replacement.
“He said: ‘Call Belichick now’,” one fan said.
Another added: “He was trying to find the phone to call Bill Belichick.”
Belichick is available after stepping down as head coach of New England last week.
The six-time Super Bowl champion has been linked with the vacant head coach position at Atlanta.
