Popular chat service Discord is experiencing widespread server outages today. The issues started at around 5PM ET, and appear to be affecting all users of Discord. The company’s status page isn’t even online right now, but Discord says it’s investigating the issues.
“Users are currently having trouble disconnecting to Discord due to an upstream internet issue,” says a Discord tweet. “We’ve got all engineers on deck investigating the issue.” The issues appear to be related to a Cloudflare issues, according to Discord.
Patreon, Deliveroo, GitLab, Zendesk, Medium, and many other sites are also down, suggesting the issues are much wider than just Discord’s connectivity problems. Downdetector, a popular site used for tracking outages, is also offline.
This is the second major outage for Discord this year, after the service was hit with connectivity issues back in March. Discord and other web-based communications services have seen a significant increase in demand and usage since the coronavirus pandemic began, as more and more friends, families, and communities turn to these apps to stay in touch.
