Digby The Dog Helps Save Life Of Woman Thinking About Jumping Off Bridge

Digby #Digby

When the emergency services arrived at the scene of a woman thinking of taking her own life on a bridge they soon realised the situation was becoming ‘increasingly worrying’.

That was until someone had an idea to bring along Digby, a ‘defusing’ dog who is used during talking therapy with people who have been exposed to trauma.

Taking to Twitter Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service explained what happened the moment Digby arrived. They wrote: “The young woman immediately swung her head round to look, and smiled. This got a conversation started about Digby and his role at the fire service.

“She was asked if she would like to come and meet Digby if she came back over the railings, which we are pleased to say she did. We wish the woman involved all the best in her recovery.”

What an incredible little fella.

As well as sharing what Digby did during the multi-agency response, the team also took the opportunity to thank Digby’s trainer.

They wrote: “Huge thanks to Digby’s handler Matt for a superb job today, the training and support he gives Digby every day, and what the duo do for crews who have experienced traumatic situations #dreamteam.”

Responding to the Twitter thread, people took the time to show their appreciation for Digby, the response teams, and, of course, the positive outcome.

One wrote: “My own experience can testify that dogs can pull people back from the very lowest moments. All power to Digby and especially to the lady, I hope she gets all the support and space she needs.”

Another added: “Such a wonderful compassionate way to help someone in the deepest despair. Thank you Digby.”

A third commented: “Proof again that dogs are just brilliant! Well done Digby and all involved. I hope this lady knows that the world is better with her in it and she gets the help she needs.”
