The BBC could be forced to appoint a new editorial board to deal with complaints about its programmes in the wake of the scandal over the Princess of Wales’s interview with Martin Bashir.

Ministers are considering plans for the corporation to appoint a new board, staffed by former editors and journalists, to adjudicate on complaints over its coverage as part of a review next spring.
