Detroit police fatally shoot man in gunfire exchange and high-speed chase

Police officers fatally shot a man early Wednesday morning in an exchange of gunfire in southwest Detroit.
Officials offered few details of the incident, confirming only that a suspect fired multiple shots at officers and they returned fire. The shooting, they added, was under investigation and more information would be released by the department later.
According to detailed accounts from WXYZ-TV and WDIV-TV:
The incident started when officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Cabot after reports that shots were fired into a residence. The suspect, according to the news reports, was driving a blue Pontiac G6 with Michigan license plates.
Then, at about 2 a.m., officers saw the G6 and tried to stop it, but the driver sped away.

There was a high-speed pursuit to the city’s east side and then west side until the chase was called off. At about 2:30 a.m., officers spotted the car in southwest Detroit and tried to stop it when another pursuit ensued.
The suspect vehicle fired shots at officers. They returned fire, striking and killing the suspect.
