Derrick Henry the middle man on odd 75-yard touchdown

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry caught a pass that went for a 75-yard touchdown play on Sunday. But the former Alabama All-American didn’t score the points.

Instead, rookie wide receiver Treylon Burks scored his first NFL touchdown.

What happened?

After former Fort Payne High School standout Evan McPherson pulled the Cincinnati Bengals into a 3-3 tie with a 47-yard field goal, Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill tossed a screen pass to Henry on a first-and-10 snap at the Bengals 25-yard line.

Henry ran through the Cincinnati defense and was steps away from his first receiving touchdown since 2019 when Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt caught Henry, and the former Park Crossing High School quarterback knocked the football out of the grasp of the barreling back at the 6-yard line.

While Henry was stopped, the ball kept going, bouncing into the end zone, where Burks won the race to reach it. He fell on the football for a touchdown with 11:15 left in the first half.

Had Henry completed the play, he would have equaled the longest reception of his NFL career. On Sept. 8, 2019, Henry had a 75-yard touchdown reception in a 43-13 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
