Denver lifts all capacity limits on Red Rocks, Coors Field and other large venues

Large outdoor venues in Denver or operated by the city, including Empower Field at Mile High, Coors Field and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, can now operate at full capacity without approval from local health officials, according to a new public health order issued by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment.

The order, which went into effect Monday, allows large outdoor venues to operate at full capacity without any physical distancing requirements or other COVID-19 restrictions in place. The order will last until at least July 1, according to a news release from the agency.

Previously, the Denver-owned Red Rocks Amphitheatre — currently admitting 6,300 attendees per concert — hadn’t expected to return to full 9,545-person capacity until June 21.

Colorado Rockies games at Coors Field had been capped at 21,363 fans — or about 43% capacity — through May, and were to be bumped up to 35,000 fans in June.

Denver’s new public health order was updated to match the state’s public health measures, which were altered Sunday.

Other changes to Denver’s COVID-19 policies under the order include:

  • Masks are required for children ages 3 and older in settings such as child care centers, hospitals and camps. Face coverings are still required by the federal government on public transportation and ride-shares, such as Uber and Lyft.
  • Indoor events of up to 1,999 people also no longer need approval from the city or state health agencies. Although indoor events with 2,000 or more people will still require approval from the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment, according to the news release.
