Denise Welch has relived her ‘horrendous’ 42 hour labour she had when giving birth to famous son Matty Healy, horrifying her Loose Women co-stars with details of what she went through, before making them laugh with the hilarious question ex husband Tim asked a doctor at one point..

The subject of child birth cropped up right at the start of Thursday’s Loose Women when host Charlene White asked Denise and her fellow panellists Judi Love and Jane Moore if they wore make up while giving birth to any of their children. And it was then that Denise turned the clock back 33 years to remember the moment 1975 frontman eventually came into the world, after putting her through the mill with a marathon labour.

Denise revealed that she was determined to give birth to Matty at a NHS hospital, but ended up slightly regretting her choice on discovering that the London hospital she went to was all about ‘natural birth’ and therefore the pain relief available to her was minimal to say the least.

Remembering how she felt at the time, Denise said: “I was like ‘hit me over the head with a spiked mallet! Get this thing out of me!’ to the point that I had no second stage, so I never got the bearing down reflex, so nothing was coming.”

As her story left her Loose Women co-stars wincing around her, Denise then revealed what Benidorm star Tim said to the midwife, adding: “At one point Tim, my ex husband, asked the doctor ‘Have you checked she still hasn’t got her tights on?'”

Denise continued: “It took a long time,” as Charlene asked “With no pain relief whatsoever?” to which the ex Waterloo Road actress replied: “No gas and air, not one thing, because they kept saying to me ‘oh you’re doing so well.'”

Over three decades on from her marathon labour with Matty, Denise has recently been following him and his The 1975 bandmates on the band’s sold out arena tour; being given a ‘royal welcome’ when spotted by fans on opening night in Brighton. And, as well as watching Matty and the lads from the audience in Newcastle, Tim also delighted the Geordie crowd by singing All I Need To Hear on stage.
