Democrats have turned Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘Dream’ into a nightmare

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one of history’s greatest moments. Standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, King spoke out against the racial injustices that plagued black people and emphatically told the Democrats that promoted slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow must be “no more.” He dreamed of a time in which the country’s people would care more about the character of an individual rather than skin color.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character,” he said. It is, arguably, the most important part of King’s speech. It represented a dream worth fighting for. Despite his noble vision, today’s Democrats embrace the very thing King fought against.

King preached unity. Democrats strive for division. He wanted integration. Today’s Democrats promote modern-day racial segregation. King considered the United States a “great nation” and championed the ideals of “the American dream.” Today’s Democrats declare the country evil, destructive, and inherently racist. Politicians including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) have turned King’s 20th century dream into a 21st century nightmare.
“In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred,” King declared. But it’s a message Democrats have rejected. Instead, they have overfilled that cup with a rabid toxicity of hate and division.
Gone are King’s hopeful thoughts of racial harmony, erased by militant, despotic acts predicated on the exact thing King wanted to end — differentiating by race. They use modern colloquial language with buzzwords such as diversity, equity, and inclusion , meant to fool any social justice acolyte.
Whereas King’s “dream” was about promoting “little black boys and black girls” joining hands with “little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers,” many of today’s Democrats advocate the very kind of segregation King longed to end. But race is one of the only things that matter to them, and repeatedly, they have shown that the content of one’s character means little.
They promote racial division in healthcare, criminal justice, education, and political nominations, all under the guise of what they call equity. Yet these have more in common with the Jim Crow ideologies that King fought against than the racial equality he sought.
They seek to vilify white people, categorizing them as problematic accomplices to the racial crimes that plague our nation’s past. Their desire to prioritize anyone who isn’t white is no different than the bigots of yesteryear who preferred anyone who was. King’s “dream” of evaluating someone by the “content of their character” has been replaced with cruel accusations of privilege and other hyperbolic falsehoods that perpetuate eternal victimization.
Today, we honor the man who gave his life to fight for fair treatment and civil rights for black people. Our country is better because of King. He had a dream that embraced the core tenets of the Declaration of Independence, the impetus for being an American, that all people are created equal. He ensured the nation would “cash the check” of equal “opportunity of this nation.” He envisioned a world that allowed black and white people to live together peacefully.
Yet his legacy is under attack by Democrats. In the 60 years since his speech, no group has done more to undermine King’s work than today’s Democratic Party. Its myopic fixation on race runs counter to his efforts, his work, and his dream.
As written in the Declaration of Independence and as King emphasized and believed, all people are created equal. Fair treatment and equal opportunity to pursue life, liberty, and happiness were the impetus for King’s movement. To truly honor King’s dream, despite the efforts of today’s Democratic Party, society must eradicate judging people based on skin color. It’s the idea for which King gave his life.
For as King once famously said, “The time is always right to do the right thing.” It’s a quote that Democrats have long since forgotten.
