Some people fear the employee may get into trouble with Delta, given the airlines ‘pro-identity’ stance.

A Delta employee in the New York area has gone viral after he was captured on camera dealing with a customer who was offended at the fact that they had misgendered her.

In the video taken by the customer to call them out, the Delta employee calmly responds to the accusations, stating it wasn’t personal, before threatening removal from the building.

It was posted online on X, formerly known as Twitter, by user Amiri King, with the caption “An entitled LGBTQ pronoun warrior meets a Delta employee that ain’t f***ing having it. Based as f***. 😎”

“And what about when a Delta employee misgenders you intentionally?” the customer can be heard asking.

In the video, the Delta employee refers to the customer as a she, then as a he once, as he was talking to the passenger he was already helping, saying “while you’re talking she’s, he’s talking too.”

When called out for it doing it “multiple times”, the man just responds with “Okay. Got you.”

“Wasn’t intentional, but if you want to take it personal, that’s also okay,” the employee clad in a black Delta zip-up jacket said.

The customer then claimed that a female Delta airline employee had also intentionally misgendered her twice.

The male employee then responded with, “Well, you’re talking to me too.”

“You’re being condescending, and if you want to continue, I’ll have Port Authority escort you out of the building right this moment if you wanna play that game with me,” he concluded.

“Would you like to continue three days before Christmas? I really don’t mind,” he says, to which the customer replies “I’m good, I’ll just put this on,” effectively ending the conversation.

The incident has been drawing sharp reactions from people online, with many criticising the customer for behaving this way, calling her ‘entitled’, an ‘alphabet warrior’ and a ‘clown’.

Delta’s Position

Delta Airlines has claimed to be all on board with the gender preferences and identifiers, and even offers options for those who don’t identify as either of the binary genders.

“As part of Delta’s ongoing efforts to reflect inclusivity and ensure an equitable travel experience for all customers, we are launching non-binary gender options for customers to select during the booking process. Delta customers will now be able to select X (Unspecified) or U (Undisclosed) in addition to M (Male) and F (Female) to identify their gender in Delta’s travel systems. Customers will also be able to select an ‘Mx’ title.”

Delta notably does not use the phrase “ladies and gentlemen,” and also supports Pride events in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York City, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
