Former congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine has said she’s received death threats from fans of Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj after speaking out against their music.
In August 2020, Lorraine—an unsuccessful Republican challenger for Nancy Pelosi’s seat in California’s 12th congressional district—was among a host of conservative figures who spoke out against Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s track “WAP” shortly after its release.
Taking to her now suspended Twitter account, she wrote: “Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion just set the entire female gender back by 100 years with their disgusting & vile ‘WAP’ song.”
“Remember, Bernie Sanders campaigned with Cardi B. Kamala Harris called her a role model,” she continued. “The Democrats support this trash and depravity!”
And on a new interview with TMZ, which was published on Wednesday, Lorraine said: “I got the whole army of Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B [fans] after me,” she said. “There’s thousands of text messages, phone calls, emails, Instagram messages—you name it—coming after me, telling me to die, kill myself, jump off a cliff, I’m this horrible racist.
“So many different messages threatening to kill me, they were coming after my house, they knew my address. Actually, I still get a lot of those messages, too.”
“I feel threatened,” she went on. “I worry sometimes that they’re gonna come after me or they really will find my address or kill me or do something terrible to me. And that’s a shame because I’m trying to help these people, help them to see that they can be more than just their WAP.
“I’m trying to help them realize that there’s a positive way to be successful in society that doesn’t mean selling your body on the streets and getting that money. But they don’t really care, they’re going to listen to the Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, no matter what.
“And that’s not going to stop me from standing up for what I believe in, which is that this music is garbage and we need to do better for our youth. We need to do better for our culture.”
During the interview, Lorraine also shared her belief that she’s the target in Megan Thee Stallion’s new music video “Thot S***.”
In the video—which was released on June 11—Megan Thee Stallion is seen taking revenge on a male congressman, after he posts a vitriolic comment on YouTube under the video for her 2020 single “Body.”
Soon living to regret his comments, the politician is terrorized in countless ways, from having coffee poured over his head to being brutally hit by a truck.
“You know, Megan Thee Stallion’s newest, latest video she’s referring to potentially me because we’ve feuded in the past with her videos like ‘WAP.’
“But probably just the conservative political commentators on a whole that have called her out for her music videos and her outrageous, degrading songs in the past.”
Lorraine told TMZ that if she were to seek election again, she’d use her platform to call out the music of Megan Thee Stallion and other female rappers.
“If I were to run again for office, I would say, look, we need to actually have better music and better examples,” she said. “Positive role models in our media, in our movies. And especially our music, because young people listen to music so much.”
Late in 2020, Lorraine was suspended from Twitter after sharing a tweet that baselessly claimed immigrants would enter the U.S. and commit acts of violence if former President Donald Trump was not reelected, according to NBC News.
