Aston Villa fans are calling on Dean Smith to hand Jacob Ramsey a Premier League chance after the injury to Ross Barkley.

Barkley is set to miss at least two games after undergoing scans on a hamstring injury he sustained in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Villa travel to West Ham United on Monday before facing Newcastle United at home on Saturday, December 5.

Barkley has been a key player in Smith’s side since joining on loan from Chelsea towards the end of transfer window, scoring in the wins against Liverpool and Leicester City.

He also set up Ollie Watkins’ second goal in the 3-0 victory at Arsenal before the recent international break.

The 26-year-old hobbled off the pitch just five minutes into clash against Brighton, with Bertrand Traore introduced in his place.

Either Traore, the £19million summer signing from Lyon, or Republic of Ireland midfielder Conor Hourihane are expected to replace Barkley in the starting XI.

But several supporters think 19-year-old Ramsey should be the replacement Smith turns to.

The highly-rated teenager made his Premier League debut as a late substitute in the 3-0 win at Fulham in September but is yet to start a match in the top-flight.

Here is a look at how some Villa fans on social media responded to the update on Barkley:

Kyle: Ramsey in.

Chris Brumpton: I’d be starting Ramsey personally, I think he’s more than good enough.

Boyd27621801: Jacob Ramsey maybe.

Jake Kingsnorth: Jacob Ramsey should be the replacement in my opinion will play the CAM role and higher role better than Hourihane.

Pete Middy: I’d like to see Ramsey get some game time. Driving centre midfielder who likes to play football.

Dshiner: I’d rather see Ramsey come in and keep the rest of the team the same.

LosAngelesVillan: Would be interesting to see Ramsey maybe play the 10. He’s a good passer. He’s certainly more comfortable as an 8 but I wonder if he could play central.

Claire: Jacob Ramsay to step up? Hopefully?

Cj2: Hopefully start Conor then Ramsey can come on.
