Good morning, Chicago. Illinois passed another grim milestone on Monday: 20,000 confirmed deaths from COVID-19. The news came as public health officials reported 1,420 new confirmed and probable cases and 41 additional deaths.

Chicago schools closed as another foot of snow is expected in the Chicago area, hundreds of flights canceled and forecasters warn ‘travel will be very difficult to impossible’

As the Chicago area braced for as much as 14 inches of snow by Tuesday, city and county officials sought to reassure residents that Chicago Public Schools will be closed, streets will be plowed, vulnerable residents will be made safe and that help is just a phone call away.

Federal fight against carjackings brings tough sentences, but hurdles limit case count as violent heists mount in Chicago

A joint task force formed in 2018 between Chicago police and federal law enforcement sought to bring more carjacking cases in federal court. The initiative was touted as a way to win elevated prison sentences apart from the often-revolving door of the Cook County criminal justice and deter others from participating in such violent acts.
