Daytona 500 Duels live updates, results: Tyler Reddick wins first qualifying race, Jimmie Johnson makes field
Yeley #Yeley
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Tyler Reddick won the first race of the Bluegreen Vacations Duel with a last-lap pass on Kyle Larson, taking the checkered flag to earn the third starting spot for the Daytona 500 and 10 points toward the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season championship. Reddick prevailed in a dramatic last lap that also saw another last-lap pass toward the back of the pack, as NASCAR Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson recovered from a late-race spin to pass J.J. Yeley in the final corner to make the Daytona 500 field.
The door for Johnson to qualify for the Daytona 500 came when Yeley jumped to the outside to try and pass Ross Chastain, opening the door for Johnson to follow Chastain through the middle and earn a starting spot in dramatic fashion.
With Duel 1 now setting the inside row for the Daytona 500, Duel 2 will now decide the outside row as well as the last remaining spot in the field. B.J. McLeod and Kaz Grala will fight it out to see who races in “The Great American Race” on Sunday.
