David de Gea’s return to football could be on the horizon with two big Spanish sides said to be seeking his services.

The former Spain international has been out of work since being released by Manchester United in June, and has been training alone.

Links to the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer persisted, but he could instead remain in elite level football with a LaLiga return.

The 32-year-old last played in Spain with boyhood side Atletico Madrid until 2011, when he then completed an £18.9 million move to Old Trafford.

Now a pair of teams hoping to join Atleti in the Champions League next year could bring him back, with fichajes.net claiming both Real Betis and Valencia are keen on the free agent.

Both clubs see the opportunity to get such an experienced goalkeeper in for no fee as a perfect way to upgrade their goalkeeping ranks.

Betis have a crisis of sorts with Rui Silva injured and 40-year-old Claudio Bravo only just returning from a lay-off, meaning De Gea could prove far more reliable.

Meanwhile, Valencia could do with the high-profile competition for young Georgian keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The report claims that Betis’ need and Valencia’s financial situation makes the Sevilla club a more likely destination, while they further add that De Gea has turned down ‘several teams’ in favour of a homecoming, which may now be just around the corner.
