The undefeated David Benavidez recently fought against Caleb Plant and extended his well-maintained winning streak. Boxing fans worldwide have been asking for a match between Benavidez and Canelo for a very long time, but Canelo seems to have different plans for the future.
After a convincing win against John Ryder, Canelo is expected to fight in September; he is still choosing who to fight next – unfortunately, it isn’t David Benavidez. As for now, he is considering a fight with Jermall Charlo and is still in search of other opponents.
The WBC interim world super middleweight champion David Benavidez recently disclosed something interesting; Canelo was presented with a handsome offer of $45 million dollars to fight Benavidez, but he turned down the offer.
Recently in an interview with Fight Hype, David Benavidez spoke about the offer presented to Canelo and his team. He claims that Canelo didn’t even respond to the offer. “It was more than 45 million dollars.That was the money Al Haymon and PBC were offering for the Canelo fight,” Benavidez said, as quoted by marca.com. “I see a lot of people saying you don’t make offers to the A-side, but $45 million is a world of money. People want to see that fight, the company was backing me.That’s why I thought we could make the fight happen, but they went in another direction”. Benavidez further said: “It’s one thing for them to turn down the offer and wait another year to make the fight and make more money, but they didn’t even respond.Imagine he has an offer on the table for 45 million dollars and nobody answers. I don’t know what else to say”. David Benavidez’s chances of fighting Canelo are like a snowball’s chance in hell, so he will have to look for someone else to fight. David Morrell could be next for him.
