Daryl Braithwaite’s The Horses is one of the most iconic Australian songs of all time.
But on Friday, the 71-year-old singer told The Herald Sun it was almost never recorded.
The star presented the track to record company head honchos in 1989, hoping he could record it for his 1990 album, Rise.

He told the paper: ‘I played it to Simon Hussey, the producer, and Peter Karpin, the A&R man.

Daryl added: ‘But I convinced them that we should record it, and the rest is history.
Appearing on The Project recently, the singer revealed that most people actually get the name of the song wrong.
Host Tommy Little asked: ‘Can I confirm something? Your song is called The Horses?’
‘Oh, yeah,’ replied Daryl. ‘The Horses, not Horses!’
Earlier this year, the Australian music legend admitted that his new single Love Songs was originally meant for US singer Pink.

Speaking to Adelaide Now, the rocker explained that he initially passed on the song and offered it to Pink’s manager Roger Davies for consideration, but the deal never went through.
‘I was sending it on as a favour to someone so I do have to thank Roger for passing on it and thinking it wouldn’t be suitable for Alecia [Pink] because she is on a break from recording,’ he revealed.

Love Songs is Daryl’s first release since his 2017 mini-album Forever The Tourist.
