Darren Moore addresses Barry Bannan injury concern ahead of Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore claims he is unsure whether talisman Barry Bannan will be fit to face Sunderland tonight. The Owls captain limped off at the end of their 4-1 win against Portsmouth last weekend and there are fears he could miss tonight’s crucial play-off clash.

Last week, Bannan was a double award winner after being named in the League One Team of the Season and claiming the prize for best goal in 2021-22. The former Aston Villa midfielder has been influential in Wednesday’s success this campaign – bagging nine goals and creating 12 assists to secure fourth spot.

A huge clash at the Stadium of Light awaits and the Black Cats will receive a huge boost before kick-off if Bannan’s name is not on the teamsheet. Moore, however, is staying coy on the issue and insists no decision has been made.

“We’ll see today,” he told YorkshireLive ahead of the game. “We’re not training until later on today so I’ll only know after that.

“We’ve been looking after him and nursing him all week. He’s an experienced individual at his age, but there’s a risk with any player when they take to the field, so we’ll wait and see with him.

“We have wrapped him up in cotton wool. We will have a look at him and see how he is. At this moment in time, we will wait and see. He has been fine. Still chirpy Baz around the place. The proof will be in training to see if the game has come too close or whether he is fine.”
