Roope Hintz will stay in Dallas for the long-term.
The Stars, on Tuesday, announced a massive eight-year extension for the 26-year-old forward. His new contract will have an annual average value of $8.45 million.
Hintz, whose previous three-year contract was set to expire at the end of 2022-23, has 24 points (8 goals, 16 assists) in 22 games played so far this season.
“Roope is a dynamic two-way centerman who has proven to be one of the best at his position in the NHL,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a statement.
“He’s developed into one of our most versatile players, making an impact on special teams and at even strength, and can be counted on by our coaching staff in every situation. We are fortunate to have him in Victory Green for an additional eight years and look forward to his continued growth as a player.”
In five NHL seasons, Hintz has appeared in 261 games, earning 88 goals and 106 assists for a total of 194 points. He is tied for sixth in Stars history (1993-present) with six career shorthanded goals and is tied for 12th with 18 career game-winning goals.
His $67.6 million extension also matches the eight-year extension that teammate Miro Heiskanen signed in July 2021.
