Dallas bakeries prepare Rosca de Reyes to celebrate the tradition of Three Kings’ Day

Reyes #Reyes

Bakeries in the north Texas area prepared for days to bake Roscas de Reyes and honor a tradition observed by Hispanic Catholics each year on January 6th, during the commemoration of the Three Kings’ Day.

Rosca de Reyes it’s a big oval-shaped bread decorated with dehydrated fruit and sugar crust. The bread, somewhat similar to a King’s Cake, carries a few 1-inch plastic baby figurines, symbolizing baby Jesus, or the newborn messiah, according to the Catholic faith.

This tradition is popular in several Latin American countries, and Dallas Latin bakeries report a high demand days before January 6th, when the feast of the Epiphany is celebrated.

“We bake roscas every year,” said Isaac Ramírez, a baker at Tango Bakery in Garland.
