In a third Story, he clapped back at those who have spoken up against him. “Y’all extra a– n—-s tagging along playing on my top like I’m a n—- you can bully or sumn,” he wrote, adding laughing-crying emojis. “goin out y’all way creating art work & s— tryna gain fans off my situation cuz it’s QUIET for y’all. N—-s better hit the studio or sumn.”

In addition to the five-time Grammy winner, Madonna, Elton John, Dua Lipa and Demi Lovato have spoken out against DaBaby for his controversial comments, which have drawn condemnation on social media. During his Rolling Loud set — which was livestreamed — he shouted out the crowd, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up. … Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d— in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”

After DaBaby shared his response to Questlove, Twitter quickly took him to task for saying he doesn’t know who The Roots frontman is. In addition to Questlove’s well-respected history and achievements in hip-hop, DaBaby has previously performed alongside the producer when the “Red Light Green Light” rapper appeared on The Tonight Show in September 2019, where The Roots have a permanent gig as the house band. He appeared on the late-night show again in December that year for a set alongside Camila Cabello on her track “My Oh My.”

While DaBaby has certainly received plenty of criticism for his comments at Rolling Loud, he has garnered some support as well. T.I. was one of the first to speak up, saying there “ain’t nothing wrong” with DaBaby for speaking his truth, later adding that he feels people are “bullying” the rapper. Boosie Badazz also stands with DaBaby, saying that there’s a double standard in how the “Ball If I Want To” artist gets treated compared to Lil Nas X.
